Overall the book gets a 4-5 star rating - very high.
In my view, there are two key points this book makes about achieving your goals.
First - and this is the key theme of the book - you are much more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down. Second, there is a short discussion of the part of our brains known as the reticular activating system (see my page on this topic).
As the title 'Write It Down Make It Happen' suggests, Henriette Klauser's message is that there is a strong connection between writing down your goals and achieving them. Part of the book is taken up with 15 'real-life' examples of people who have reached goals after writing them down. If you look at the Amazon reviews, you'll see that some readers like these anecdotes while others find no value in them. It's probably a question of taste.
One reviewer who gave Write It Down Make It Happen only 2 stars says he / she has a "hard time buying this cosmic connection" between writing down and achieving a goal. However, this is where the second key point comes in.
Once you write a goal down, you bring it to the attention of your subconscious mind. Your reticular activating system then brings relevant information to the attention of your conscious mind. So you are bringing the power of your whole mind - both the conscious and subconscious parts - to the achievement of your goals. (If you'd like a book that goes into this in more depth see my review of Psycho-Cybernetics by Dr Maxwell Maltz.)
The valuable point here is that you will have a much better chance of achieving your goals if you write them down - preferably every day. However, that is only part of the story. As one Amazon reader says, there are many people who write down goals that never get achieved.
Whilst there is a strong link between writing down goals and their achievement, you can take further action to give yourself an added chance of success. Writing down goals is vital, but there are many other goal getting tips as you will see throughout this web site.
Write It Down Make It Happen is an excellent book for emphasising the importance of writing goals. As another reader says, "writing it down really does help you set your mind on what you really want and what your goals really are".
