Stress Management Technique
Strategic Relaxation And Self Confidence
Welcome to the Stress Management Technique page. This part of the web site is about psycho cybernetics - and in particular the vital impact that a negative or positive self image has on your success or failure in achieving goals you set.
Dan Kennedy discusses using a stress management technique to free up the servo-mechanism and develop self confidence on CD 2 of The New Psycho-Cybernetics audio program. Part 3 is about self confidence and our 'critic within'. Part 4 covers strategic relaxtion. PART 3 - DEVELOPING SELF CONFIDENCE As Dan Kennedy explains on CD 1, our servo-mechanism is an automatic non-judgemental goal-seeking 'guided missile' or 'homing pigeon'. However, we need to develop a self image that will pass on the correct instructions to our servo-mechanism. One of the key difficulties to overcome in developing our self image is our 'critic within'. We need to find a way to develop our self confidence to counteract this. In Part 3 we learn that unshakeable self confidence is built on a four cornered foundation: a well functioning 'Automatic Success Mechanism (part 9), building relevant knowledge, developing relevant skills, and relaxing under pressure. I think one of the key points here - and what adds to the the psychocybernetics tape' credibility for me - is the need to build knowledge and skills and not just 'think positive'. PART 4 - STRESS MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUE This relaxing under pressure is a both a stress management technique and a way to achieve our goals. Dan sets out 8 techniques that can be used on a daily basis, including 'step in, step out' and 'calm body, calm mind'. Step in, step out uses the mental movies technique covered on CD 1. Other techniques include taking physical breaks and following an 'oscillation pattern': work/relax/work/relax. The reason relaxation techniques are so important to goal achievement is that we cannot work on our self image or reach our goals through only left brain activity such as willpower. We need to engage the right side of the brain, and in particular mental images. For example, when Thomas Edison was stuck on a problem his solution was to take a nap. Oftentimes the answer would come to him when he awoke.
