Tips On Reaching Goals

Welcome to the Reaching Goals page. This web site is about setting and achieving personal goals. To see more goals articles please go to our achieve your personal goals or setting goals pages.

What are the key factors in reaching goals? If you read through the whole web site you'll find loads of tips and recommended resources for achieving goals. But here are some selected highlights....

First, there is the way you choose your personal goals.

The greater your desire to achieve a particular goal, the greater your chance of achieving it.

So make sure to choose goals to which you are 100% committed.

Choosing goals in a half-hearted way sets you up in patterns of long-term failure.

Second, there is the way you go about setting your goals.

To give yourself the best chance of success, you need to break down your overall goal into mini-goals and tasks.

Then you need to weave the tasks into your daily schedule. Your goal needs to be very specific, both in terms of words on paper and also the image you see in your mind - your 'mental rehearsal'.

Third, there is the question of what is termed 'goal congruency'. You will be facing an uphill battle unless you see yourself as the type of person who is capable of reaching goals you've set.

For example, let's say you've chosen the goal 'I want to earn $150,000 per year from my business', but also that you've never earned more than $30,000 per year in 23 years of trying. There is some danger that you just don't see yourself as the 'sort of person who earns $150,000'.

That's why it's important to set TO BE goals, as well as TO DO goals.

You may have to change your self-image - that is the way you see yourself - by techniques such as mental rehearsal as described in PsychoCybernetics by Maxwell Maltz, or The New PsychoCybernetics audio program.

Keeping focused on reaching goals you've set is vital. That is one reason for the use of affirmations. Napoleon Hill advised that you should read aloud each morning and night the specific goal which you've written down.

You can read my review of the Gary Ryan Blair audio ebooks The Power Of Focus and Everything Counts which both give very helpful advice on the importance and practicalities of focus.

You will also need to keep yourself motivated.

Clearly, part of this is to choose goals which you have a burning desire to reach.

A second point is that it's very useful to talk to other people who will support you in your aims, or to read relevant books or listen to audio programs.

Finally, it's not enough to be motivated or even to be totally committed to reaching your goals.

You also need to learn, in day to day practical terms, exactly what to do to succeed.

You need a road map. The best place to get this advice is from people who have already acheived the very goal you've set for yourself. OTHER PAGES ON THIS WEB SITE TO VISIT

Why Self Image is Vital to Success

If you're not aware why and how your subconscious beliefs can help or hinder your chances of achieving your personal goals, have a look at the teachings of Dr Maxwell Maltz on the importance of your self image.
