In fact this classic self-help book has achieved a 5 star average rating from the 41 readers who have written reviews. There are other excellent books that have achieved over 4 stars, but a full 5 star rating is most unusual. (Be sure to read reviews on the original 1960 book and not the much less popular 1993 rewrite.) By profession Dr Maxwell Maltz was a plastic surgeon, rather than a motivational speaker. Maybe for that reason his writing style is very matter of fact and logical. He makes it sound just like common sense. But what does PsychoCybernetics have to do with achieving your goals? Dr Maltz realised that your self-image defines and limits your potential. So your current restricted self-belief may be preventing you from achieving your goals. If you can improve your self-image you can reach your goals much more easily. It is not possible to force yourself to sustained performance over and above your current self image. That doesn't mean that you can't achieve new goals. What you need to do is build your self image so that you expand from your current self imposed limitations. For many people, PsychoCybernetics (amazon link) is near to the top of their list of self-help books. Certainly it is one of my favourites. Dan Kennedy has created an excellent PsychoCybernetics audio program, which includes Maxwell Maltz speaking on tape and video. This audio program is like a step by step mind tool (see my detailed review) that helps you learn how to use your creative imagination to achieve your goals.
