Health and fitness goals are near the top of many peoples' priority lists. Just look at all the health related magazines on sale at any newspaper store.
I can tell you right now that I'm not a health or fitness expert. However, I do know a bit about achieving personal goals. So what I'm going to do here is to give you some general goal setting advice and also some links to websites that give information about health and fitness.
Many of us start a fitness regime but then let it lapse. Why is that? Well, I think there are several reasons.
First, we don't make a firm commitment to achieving a particular goal. It's more like 'I'd like to be a bit fitter' rather than 'I practice yoga for 20 minutes every day'. For more information on this you may like to read my setting goals article.
Second, we don't support our initial commitment by establishing a consistent routine. For example, it can be useful to write your goal down every day and to speak you goal aloud every morning and night. This helps your reticular activating system keep you on target.
Third, maybe we chose strategies that don't have much chance of working for us. Then we get discouraged because we don't acheive the results we want. It's important to research for yourself rather than just follow the latest trend. Hopefully, the links I've provided will help you gather some useful information.
Fourth, I think it's important to pick a strategy that you enjoy. For example, your best friend may enjoy a weight loss class but you might prefer swimming. Also you may prefer a solo activity or to be part of a group. It's always easier to stick to a goal that you enjoy.
