People work in different ways - and you will probably have your own 'success formula' for techniques and procedures to achieve the results you want. However, if you haven't yet found that success formula, it's best to try the methods suggested by people you know who get things done. Goal setting forms are part of my success formula. They work for me. I find that there is a gap between what you can read in a book about how to do something, and the actual step by step approach you need to follow day by day. You can read about a great idea, but how do you put it into practice in your life? That's where I think it's very helpful to have a template or worksheet or form to use. Different types of form can be used for three different purposes at the three key stages: goals selection, setting and achieving. IDENTIFYING AND SELECTING GOALS Sometimes you might identify a result you need that is not on your list long term objectives. This could be because of a change of thinking, or it might arise from something unexpected happening. For example, you might lose your job and have to find another way to earn enough money to pay your mortgage and household bills. SETTING SMART GOALS ACHIEVING GOALS Each day I note down the number - and by the end of the week it must be at least three! Other tasks include activities such as research and planning. And each week I measure progress to date. Making daily progress towards your goal is what Jeff Olson calls The Slight Edge in his book of that name.
